A tablet consist of a core and a covering.
The tablet core contains the active substance, iron (II) gluconate 200 mg (equivalent to 23.2 mg of elemental iron), and the additives: potato starch, talc, ascorbic acid, propylene glycol and stearic acid.
The covering consists of talc, saccharose, gelatine, magnesium oxide, gum arabic and Cochineal red.
Coated tablets of Ascofer contain 200 mg of iron (II) gluconate each and serve the purpose of reducing deficits of iron. Iron deficiency may seriously impair the formation of red blood cells and tissue respiration, due to a decrease in concentration of oxygen–binding and carrying proteins (hemoglobin and myoglobin).
